Our 75TH Anniversary Year

WE’RE READY: IT’S OUR 75th YEAR AND WE’RE CELEBRATING!

BCT President Pat Hoye presents the latest diamond give-a-way to Mary and Richard Wallace of Beloit. They were the lucky season ticket holders who won the diamond bracelet at the closing night of our recent production of Laura. Mary and Richard told us that they went to their first Civic Theatreplayback in the 1970's when afriendof their son's was in the musical Carnival. They enjoyed the show so much that they have kept coming back and have purchased season tickets ever since. Congratulations Mary and Richard!

WELCOME TO OUR DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY YEAR! Beloit Civic Theatre was founded in 1932, and we are still going strong! Come help us celebrate after every opening night show at our cake receptions backstage, and meet the Board of Directors, the actors, the directors and the stage crew! We would love to meet our patrons who have made it possible for our little theatre to remain open for 75 years. During this season we will also be giving away door prizes at every performance to any audience member, and, for our season members only, we will be giving away a piece of diamond jewelry at the closing night of every show. The winner will be drawn from a list of all current season ticket holders. Our final giveaway at the end of the season, will be a very special custom-made diamond pendant necklace worth $750 generously donated by Mr. Kim Beals of Brill Jewelers in downtown Beloit. So, become a member today! See you at the show!

BELOIT CIVIC THEATRE’S NEXT PRODUCTION:

Directed by Carl Balson

About "The Whole Town's Talking":

The Whole Town’s Talking was the very first play Beloit Civic Theatre ever produced. We managed to locate a copy of the out-of-print play, and found ourselves pleasantly surprised that the comedy was very funny. It made perfect sense to Beloit Civic Theatre’s Board of Directors to try a revival of this show 75 years after our founding.

In the play, a successful businessman finds himself giving advice to the lovelorn to his shy business partner, including the suggestion that he should invent a love interest in order to make himself more appealing to other women. After selecting a random photo to be his “girlfriend,” things start to fall apart. It turns out that the photo is of a famous movie star, and the whole town starts gossiping about the new love interest. To make matters worse, the movie star is scheduled to make a local celebrity appearance and everyone expects our hero to appear with his “intended.” The plot twists and turns, and as in all good comedies, everything is resolved at the end. In 1926, the play was made into a silent film. There also was a 1935 film based on the play, but it switched the plot around completely. Don’t miss our hilarious production of this classic comedy!

Production dates are April 24, 25, 26, and May 1, 2, 3 Curtain time: 7:30 p.m. There will also be a 3:00 p.m matinee on May 3rd.

Intermission at BCT:

During intermission, we welcome you to enjoy some home-baked goodies and coffee or soft drinks, for a simple donation to our scholarship fund. We will also have on sale DVD’s and VHS tapes with an exclusive interview with Elizabeth Reinholz, conducted by our very own Board Member Les Blumreich. The cost is only $4 for this heartwarming piece on BCT history

HELP US OUT!

One of the easiest ways you can help out BCT is by saving your original CUB FOOD receipts. You can either bring your receipts to the show, or mail them to the theatre office at 400 East Grand Avenue – Suite #310, Beloit, WI 53511. The theatre will receive a 1% rebate of the total sales before tax for each receipt. Thank you in advance for remembering us!

WHY ARE WE SO CHEAP?

We get asked that question a lot! More accurately put, why are our ticket prices so low? Beloit Civic Theatre is officially a part of the Beloit Recreation Department. An agreement with the city and the schools allows us to use the school’s theatre facility without a rental fee. We have always been very grateful to the School District for their cooperation and generosity in allowing us to rehearse and perform at the Elizabeth Reinholz Theatre. And this is why we can offer such wonderful shows at very family friendly prices!

THEATRE HUMOR:
(This goes out to all those who have ever been, or will one day, be on stage. And for those who’ve never been nor will be, now you know how anxiety-ridden actors really are.)

The Actor’s Prayer
As on the stage I take my place
I pray that I not know disgrace
Allow me not to drop a cue,
And neither on the scenery chew
Make not my props to go astray
Allow no entrance to delay
That I may not be left to groan
And hang upon the stage alone

Make all the critics to be kind,
To imperfections make them blind
And keep my brain both quick and cool
Lest of myself I make a fool
May all my lines be spoke as writ
Please make this play to be a hit!

You Know You Work in Community Theatre If…
you’ve ever appeared on stage in an English drawing room murder mystery where half the cast spoke with Southern accents.

Beloit Civic Theatre is a member of the United Arts Alliance.

“ Just remember: It’s only Community Theatre until it offends someone...then, it’s ART!”
